FEMALUMA is a Modern & Contemporary Art gallery founded by Pedro Nazar and his wife Carolina after 15 years of collecting and engagement with the art world. With spaces in Cascais, Portugal, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the gallery creates an ongoing dialogue between Latin America and the rest of the world. With a consistent program in the primary market, FEMALUMA works with emerging and established artists, supporting their practices through exhibitions, art fairs, publications, and relationships with collectors, curators, and institutions. The gallery is also very active in the secondary market, sourcing and placing significant works by historical artists in important collections.

CURATORIAL VISION

FEMALUMA presents works by Luca Benites that examine geometry through perception, reflection, and time. Circles, triangles, spirals, mirrored planes, and polished metallic surfaces form a visual vocabulary that changes according to light, the viewer’s position, and the surrounding space. Rather than treating geometry as a fixed rational system, Benites approaches it as an experience unfolding through duration. Working across sculpture, relief, and modular construction, he revisits legacies of Constructivism and Concrete art while shifting their emphasis from stability toward transformation. Reflective surfaces incorporate fragments of architecture, bodies, and changing light, making the viewer an active component of the work and positioning perception itself as a temporal process.

BIO

Luca Benites (b. 1981, Brasília) is an artist and architect based in São Paulo whose practice examines architecture, materiality, memory, time, and transformation. He begins painting in Montevideo with Ignacio Iturria and studies architecture at Universidad ORT Uruguay, followed by postgraduate studies in architecture and fine arts in Barcelona. In 2016, FOGO marks a decisive shift in his practice: Benites burns 298 earlier works and subsequently uses their ashes to develop installations, paintings, and hourglasses addressing loss, value, and regeneration. His work is held in collections including MAC Niterói, MACA, Fundación Pablo Atchugarry, and Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Sorocaba.
