CURATORIAL VISION
For ESTE ARTE 2026, 12th edition, Galerie Jocelyn Wolff presents Diego Bianchi’s project “New Cement Bodies”, conceived especially for the public of ESTE ARTE and Uruguay. Bianchi expands his long-standing investigation into the human figure by producing a new series of cement sculptures designed for José Ignacio’s unique indoor–outdoor setting. Twisted, crouched, yet precise, his figures can inhabit both natural terrain—sand, soil, grass—and domestic or social spaces such as living rooms and terraces. This dual placement underscores the hybrid nature of the series, where objects drawn from everyday urban detritus are reimagined in durable materials that connect with the coastal landscape. By situating sculpture between excess and order, fragility and endurance, the project speaks directly to the dynamics of contemporary life in dialogue with Uruguay’s environment.
BIO
Diego Bianchi (Argentine, b. 1969) lives and works in Buenos Aires. His multidisciplinary practice spans sculpture, installation, video, photography, and performance, often using discarded objects—chairs, shoes, pipes, electronic devices—or casts of body parts. Bianchi’s work interrogates aesthetic conventions and sociopolitical conditions, channeling the chaotic remnants of consumerism and the impact of neoliberal economies. His exhibitions include Syntactic Tactic (CA2M, Madrid, 2022), the Performance Biennial (MNBA, Buenos Aires, 2021), Sauvetage Sauvage (Galerie Jocelyn Wolff, Romainville, 2020), Liverpool Biennial (2020), and BIENALSUR (2019). He received the Premio Azcuy (Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires, 2019).
