ISHMAEL RANDALL-WEEKS
Galería del Paseo (Punta del Este)
In Spanish, without translation.
Open to the public.
There is something different about hearing an artist explain not what a work means, but how they arrived there. Ishmael Randall-Weeks begins with measurement but quickly arrives at politics, history, and perception. Architecture, archaeology and systems of proportion reveal that the ways we measure space are never entirely innocent: they determine how territories are organized, inhabited and understood. ESTE FOCUS is a moment to look closely, listen carefully, and understand the ideas behind the work, and the process that brought it into being.
CURATORIAL VISION
Galería del Paseo presents works by Ishmael Randall-Weeks that explore relationships among time, systems of measurement, architecture, archaeology, and everyday space. Through processes of walking, collecting, layering, and calibration, the artist transforms ordinary materials and observations into sculptural and geometric structures. Euclidean measurement intersects with references ranging from archaeological sites to architecture and textile patterns, producing objects that function simultaneously as material records and systems of orientation. Rather than treating measurement as neutral, Randall-Weeks examines how it structures perception and mediates our relationship with the environments we inhabit.
