Ideas travel. Artists move. Histories are rewritten. Latin American art has never existed within borders and migration does more than move artists and curators; it creates new cultural networks.
At ESTE CHARLAS, Aimé Iglesias Lukin, Director and Chief Curator of Art at Americas Society, joins Laura Bardier, Director of ESTE ARTE, to discuss what happens when artists, artworks, and ideas move between places — how context transforms meaning, how networks are formed, and how cultural identities evolve without becoming detached from where they come from. Aimé Iglesias Lukin has developed a significant body of research around Latin American art, migration, artistic networks, and the circulation of ideas across the Americas. Her exhibitions include This Must Be the Place: Latin American Artists in New York, 1965–1975, El Dorado: Myths of Gold, and solo projects with Sylvia Palacios Whitman, Geles Cabrera, and Feliciano Centurión.

Aimé Iglesias Lukin (b. 1984, Argentina) is an Argentine art historian and curator and the Director and Chief Curator of Art at the Americas Society in New York, a position she has held since 2019. Her curatorial practice focuses on modern and contemporary art of the Americas, transnational artistic networks, migration, and the recognition of historically underrepresented artists, particularly women and immigrant communities. She holds a Ph.D. in Art History from Rutgers University, an M.A. from New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts, and a degree from the Universidad de Buenos Aires. Her doctoral research became the exhibition and publication This Must Be the Place: Latin American Artists in New York 1965–1975 (2021–2022). At Americas Society, she has organized major exhibitions including El Dorado: Myths of Gold, Telenovela (2026), and solo presentations of Feliciano Centurión, Sylvia Palacios Whitman, and Geles Cabrera. She previously worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Institute for Studies on Latin American Art, and Fundación Proa. In 2024, she was a fellow at the Center for Curatorial Leadership, and in 2025, she received the Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in Curatorial Work. Her leadership at Americas Society advances a cross-cultural understanding of the region, connecting historical scholarship with contemporary artistic practice and expanding the visibility of Latin American art internationally
